The Potty and the Sewer: Gossip

Gossip scares me. It’s not because I am afraid of being the object of it. If it is me they are blabbing about, I am generally more amused than anything. If what is being said is particularly harmful, I just look to the Lord and lean on His Word to give me the grace to deal with it. What scares me about gossip is that so many Christians do not seem to care that it is a sin.  A SIN!   I know… if you read a lot of my posts, you caught my pattern of emphasis there. I would like to REALLY emphasize this though…. Gossip is a SIN!…

    Someone Stole My Laptop

You know what I did about it? Nothing. I let them have it. Well… actually I did do something. The laundry. Washed the dishes. Took some time and cleaned some areas that needed attention. By now you have probably figured out that I wasn’t too concerned about retrieving my laptop.     I knew I would get it back eventually.  That’s because I knew who stole it. His name is Mark. I’m married to him. He decided that this afternoon was take-Becky’s-laptop-apart-and-scare-her-to-death-when-she-sees-all-the-pieces day. That was my interpretation. The Pressure to be Perfect

Tonight, I spent 3 hours working on a meal for my husband that I hoped would bring a smile to his face and joy to his heart. Unfortunately, the main dish fell short and just didn’t deliver the results I had hoped for in its highly anticipated flavor. The beautiful thing about it though? My husband, though he acknowledged with me that it wasn’t the greatest, showed sincere appreciation for it, and I felt his love just as strongly as if it had been a world class meal. He even gave me an “A+ for effort”. Recently, I have struggled with pressure to please this person and that person, and…

    Two Sides of Contentment

It never ceases to amaze me, how God can “recycle” the lessons He teaches us, and 5 years after He taught it, He can bring it back just as effectively, but in an amplified version. It’s kind of like learning that your “Topic Sentence” for grade school essays is the foundation for understanding and creating your “Thesis Statement” in High School and college. Recently, the Lord has been speaking to me about contentment. When it is proper and when it is not. For instance, Joshua says “… Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites,…

    “Not in Service”

As the bus flew by, the tiny bulbs across the sign lit up to spell out a message to the world. “I am unavailable.” A wall was thrown up between the driver and every pedestrian in need for countless miles. You could almost sense the driver’s frustration, as he avoided eye contact with anyone that looked like they may need a lift. He was done dealing with people. It didn’t matter how many more walking about town were in need of a ride. A frazzled mother with a tantrum-taken child and tired feet. An old widow struggling to carry her groceries across the street. An elderly fellow that walked with…
