Better than Cracker Barrel Apple Cider BBQ Chicken

So…. all good things come to end, right? NOT THIS ONE Y’ALL! My husband and I were at Cracker Barrel a couple weeks ago and we discovered…. TO MY HORROR… that they had discontinued their Apple Cider BBQ Chicken! SAY WHAT?! Well… when a restaurant discontinues my favorites I do not rest until I have figured out how to make something equally delicious at home. So that’s what we did. After tweaking and mashing a few recipes together, this is what I came up with. BETTER than Cracker Barrel Apple Cider BBQ Chicken.

The Pig Sty Method Card Kit

Y’all! My little world has been a bit of a whirlwind the past few weeks. Several years ago, I began developing my own housecleaning system, and I called it the “Pig Sty Method.” If you’ve followed me here and on Facebook, you’ve likely witnessed the evolution of it. As an undomesticated housewife, cleaning and cooking and taking care of a husband just do not come naturally to me. So I wanted to create a system that helped me become that wife. It also had to be something that was fluid enough that it adapted to whatever obstacles were inhibiting my success… like nursing an infant, or a giant move, or…

    The Unexpected Knock

There must be some law…. Some strange force of the universe…. One where, if someone shows up on my doorstep, my house will, without a doubt, be the WORST it has ever been…. Ever. Seriously. Like… forget the 30 other days of the month that the house is neat and kept and you have got your junk together. No. If someone knocks on my door…. It would be the day that I cleaned out the car and had all the contents in the kitchen to sort. It would be the day when the dishwasher was broken and I pulled all the dirty dishes out so I could take a look…

It Doesn’t Happen in a Day

I sat down on our new couch today and looked around our freshly painted living room. It looks magnificent. But…. the walls are still bare. I gazed longingly at the windows, dreaming of curtains to hang from them because there are none. There is nothing on the floor, no rug, no accent furniture, no pictures. Just a couch and a love seat, and a new privacy film on the front door. Three things out of the million that I’d like to see done in here. I want to retire the plastic party foldout and serve dinner around a grand farmhouse table. I want to strip the floors and stain them dark brown and build…

    The Pig Sty Method

Housework is one of those odd balancing acts. It’s kind of like a science, testing, tweaking, modifying this and that… until finally, you find a sweet spot. A place where the level of presentation you are seeking meets achievability… and you can sustain it…. And do so without dreading it.  Learning how to embrace and fulfill my role as homemaker has been, and continues to be a journey. I’ve been the full-time working-woman, the bored-silly-childless-wife, the weak and debilitated out-of-commission spouse, the-barely-hanging-on-mama, and… now… I’m your average stay-at-home mom. In all of those roles and circumstances, I have learned that in order to do something long-term, flexibility is a must-have ingredient.…

    We’re Not Having Company

Mark and I are living on the wild side. You better buckle your seat belts for this crazy news. You ready? Okay… here it is. We had company over the other day. All this risky business may mean it’s time to take out a life insurance policy. 😉 Yeah, yeah. I realize that company is a pretty normal thing for most people but… if you know anything about Mark Pruett and his hermit wife, well… It was pretty courageous. That’s all. I know it’s probably nonsensical, but there is something about having people over that turns me into a jittery, nervous wreck. The house could be spotless. The aroma of a…

    Routine to the Rescue

You know, being the insanely popular, superb-housekeeper that I am, people often ask me, “Girl, how do you do it? How do you keep such a perfectly clean home?” To which I humbly respond in a nasal English accent, “Darling, it’s in my genes. I was born with this super power.” ROFL. Not. I’m kidding. Seriously.   Trust me when I say, no one, and I mean NO ONE, has ever asked me such a ludicrous question. This girl’s house is lived in…  if you catch my drift. I actually just finished scraping my son’s embedded fruit and grain bar off the hardwood floor, so… you can imagine. The more…

    Where Do I Even Start?

There have been times in my married life, where I have looked around my house and thought… where do I even begin? Every time we’ve moved. The time we crammed all of our possessions into a tiny upstairs apartment where the second bedroom was my son’s nursery, my husband’s office, his “garage”, and a storage unit all in one… and because everything didn’t fit in there, it was like an oozing monster that kept creeping into my living room, master bedroom and kitchen. There was a period of time two years ago where I slowly emerged from an invalid state into a house that had not been kept in months.…

Welcome to my Humble Pig Sty

Here’s a confession for you…. You ready for this one? I don’t know…. maybe I shouldn’t admit it. I tend to obsess over what people think of me sometimes…. Confessing this may not be good for that obsession. I might worry too much that the hoity toities think ill of me. *SNORT* Yeah right. You know me better than that. This blog is a forum of openness on the struggles of learning and adapting to wifeliness, mothering, and housekeeping. So…Here it is. Oink. Oink. I’m not a good housekeeper.. like… at all. Shocking, right?   *snort*  (ROFL) Y’all knew that.  I mean…. I try… but I fail. Miserably. Over and over…
